Biography
Mark was the National Project Manager for Access Booking and Choice in Mental Health in 2003 for the National Institute of Mental Health in England sharing responsibly for implementation of the national booking target. His experience with the National Institute for Mental Health England and its many guises,(both nationally and as the South West Service Improvement Lead) places Mark in a position to have a broad view of the needs of service providers, clinical staff and service users and carers. He has 20 years experience working in Addiction services working regionally and nationally in this field and specialises in Harm Reduction and specifically in safer injecting techniques. Mark was the co author of a chapter in "Injecting Illicit Drugs" edited by Pates, McBride and Arnold, alongside several journal articles. Previously he was module manager for Harm Reduction Module of Diploma in Addiction Studies at Leeds Addiction Unit, West Yorkshire. He has delivered training and facilitation in England and Northern Ireland in both addiction related subjects, team building and service improvement issues. Mark has provided on site training, facilitation and external review pertaining to all aspects of Mental Health Service Redesign, HIV & Hepatitis, Safer injection techniques & detoxification techniques Mark is currently working as Project Manager on secondment to Cornwall Foundation Trust developing local skills to redesign mental health and other services and workforce having previously worked across the South West of England, whilst maintaining national roles and contacts. Mark trained as a Mental Health First Aid approved Instructor in 2010, now delivered courses to staff in Learning Disability, administration staff, and for drug and alcohol staff. he has arranged sessions for staff in private and statutory sector. Mark currently delivers drug and alcohol sessions to mental health first aid instructors courses, to young people and also to apprentices in Plymouth. Mark delivers training on mental health systems to service users and carers who wish to become more involved in service development, supporting The Two Way Street ltd, and delivered training to the Somali Mental Health and Drug Project in Bristol. He currently leads on dual diagnosis training and also led the South West Development Centre Dual Diagnosis strategy development. As a Service Improvement Lead in both the SW and nationally Mark assisted in developing the ABC project and meeting the 80% success rate of that project. Teaching techniques to many staff nationally and also in Northern Ireland. Mark is working on Race Equality and Cultural Capability development and training in Cornwall and the SW and leads on the delivery to all inpatient staff in Cornwall. Alongside the training and project management work, Mark is currently a volunteer director for a social firm in Bristol (The Two Way Street ltd) and offers training sessions through and in conjunction with some of the other directors and volunteers from TTWS expanding the variety and richness of training available. Mark is currently studying for MBA at University of Plymouth "I have an ethos of making training and education sessions fun without losing the vital messages that those commissioning the work wish to get across".
