Self Injecting Harm Reduction Self injecting drug use has many people who consider it to be harmful and must be prevented at all costs, and on the other hand many who accept it is behaviour that can be adapted to be as safe as possible. More and more services are finding they are approached by people with drug and alcohol issues and within this group will be self injectors. Many who do not wish to stop and so an understanding of why they use, and some basic yet effective harm reduction techniques can cut serious untoward incidents and complaints. Looking at the reasons why people inject, local and national policy, techniques to reduce harm, the types of harms, the anatomy of arteries and veins are looked at in this one or two day course. Experience of preparing street drugs (well fake drugs) and the role of ritual and habit in behavour is discussed and explored.
